Dignified Housing Checklist for Modern Day Adult Boarding House
A couple of weeks back I read the following article by Val Garner — 🖋️ Pen name Amber Richards
It stayed with me, because as an aspiring architect craving to contribute to social and climactic change, she showed me an under developed building type that could aid the growing housing crisis for adults of all ages. I read her article from the first word to last. It was beautifully written and I remember it fondly. But it lit a fire in me that made me want to answer the following question:
What is dignified housing?
My rubric to finding the answer to this was not to think much of economy in the sense of material objects. My goal was to look at it as all fundamental things human beings deserve….. and that’s what this list is about.
Fundamental Requirements:
Safety:
- Secure building with locks and surveillance.
- Well-lit common areas and individual rooms.
- Emergency exits and fire safety measures.
